Explore materials, techniques and processes safely

Adobe Premiere
Today we followed a quick demo on how to use Adobe Premiere, we covered how to create your own title for a short animation, how to import a selected video or image and how to edit them once they are in the layers.

Exploring Textures
Today we explored different textures by going around the College and collecting rubbings of any surface that we thought may be suitable for using in our work, these are the rubbings we collected,

Pattern Demo
Today we followed a demo on how to create patterns using Photoshop,

Firstly we opened up the source image of a cabbage in photoshop, http://mle.plymouthart.ac.uk/mod/resource/view.php?id=19302

We cropped a part of the image that would give the best texture for creating the pattern,

We then changed the colour of the image to suit the pattern by changing the Hue and Saturation, I decided to follow the demo and choose Cyan.

We then created a new "Text" layer, and typed a single letter "F" in a fancy French font which will become the main part of the pattern,

We then imported the image into a new blank document,

we duplicated the layer and flipped them to fit together which created a pattern,

We then created a new "Text" layer and typed the words "Visual Freestylin", we then filled in the text with the pattern that we created by copying the pattern then CNTRL + clicking the "Text" layer to select it then pasting the pattern into it.

Animation Demo

We began with creating a new file of 600 by 600 pixels and a resolution of 72

To create a fire/explosion effect we selected "Filter" then "Render" then "Clouds"

We then selected "Difference Clouds" to create more depth in the clouds

To create the colour of the explosion we selected "Image" then "Adjustments" then "Gradient Map"

We chose the colours black, red, yellow then orange in that order to create a real life explosion effect

We then added a blur by going into "Filter" then "Blur" then selecting "Radial Blur"

We set the "amount" to 20 and the "blur method" to "Zoom"

we created a new text layer

We then Rasterized the layer and selected "Blending Options" to create shadows and depth within the text

We then created a new text layer and repeated the process above

Now for the animation - we selected "Windows" then "Animation" to bring up the animation bar

Using rulers, we then moved both text layers off the stage so that they were not visible

We then highlighted both frames, duplicated them then selected "Tween Animation Frames" to create the animation.

This was a very enjoyable demo, I like using different ways and techniques of creating scenes and this was a very basic yet good way to create a very life-like explosion scene.

Typography Demo

We began with opening this source image of a women as it's a good example for the demo, we then made the image a grayscale by selecting "Image" then "Mode" then "Grayscale"

We then selected "Filter" then "Autistic" then "Cut-out" witch gives the effect of the screen grab below

We then increased the Brightness and Contrast to the max to remove the different levels of grey

We drew around the face using the "Pen Tool" and then created a new layer

Using the "Text Tool" we created a text box around the face of the image for the text to flow in

We then created a load of text inside the area we made using the "Text Tool"

We then resterized the layer so that we could use the "Transform" tool

We then experimented with transforming and warping text to create different parts of the face such as the eyebrows and hair

Overall; this demo has been very interesting, experimenting with typography has been different but also fun, I like that i am now able to create many different ways of typography and I will start to experiment, creating my own piece using this technique.

Selection Demo

Today we did a selection demo, to start off with we all opened a source image of a punk, we used this image because the person’s hair was a good example to experiment with.

Using the “Brush Tool” with a large size and hardness and also selecting the “Edit In Quick Mask Mode” tool I started to paint around the image.

Once finished, I clicked the “Edit in Quick Mask Mode”  tool again to create a selection around the image. I then opened the “Select” drop down menu and Inversed the selection I created. I then opened the “Select” menu again and clicked “Refine Edge” witch brings up the menu on the next screen grab.

I then selected the “On Black” View so that the source image is still showing but with a black background.

I then adjusted the sliders and ticked the “Decontaminate Colours” box and selected to output to a New layer with the layer mask.

Using the “Brush Tool” I painted around the background and hair to remove access black from the “On Black” selection. Below is a screen grab of the source image with the background removed.

I then messed around with backgrounds and image adjustments etc.
Here is the finished result. Overall I think the process is a very useful, effective and quick way of using selection and I will definitely include it in my own work in the future.

Collecting Materials and Images

Today we went out to take pictures to create a collage poster - we went to Astor park, mainly because of the surroundings included with a long wall covered in different graffiti art.

I took many different shots and angles.

As I was taking the pictures I started to decide what kind of  collage I could create using different styles angles and views.

Close ups

Side angles

I then took several pictures of different sections of the graffiti wall in case i chose to create a panoramic collage.

We took rubbing's around the park using graphite pencils and paper to scan into a computer for future use or even to include in our collage.

We also took pictures of textures of walls, floors and anything else that could help us with our collage. We did this to help gain knowledge about our surroundings so that we knew the different kinds of textures when it came to creating our designs.
